Selling Your Jewellery

SELLING  AND  MARKETING  YOUR  JEWELLERY

So, you have come through and now you are making pieces like an old pro!!  You are now ready to begin selling a few pieces and if you have already been thinking of this then you may already have thought of a few places to begin selling your pieces.  I began by selling a few pieces locally in the smaller shops - hairdressers and beauticians are a good place to start - you can discuss prices, commissions etc with them.  Normally I offer a commission and put my pieces there "on consignment" so that if they sell I then get paid.
(There are many other places where your jewellery will sell - see other pages of my blog!)

There is just one other thing to give your jewellery a touch of professionalism - nice packaging and presentation.  And, if you put your pieces is a shop - they will need to be DISPLAYED nicely.

PRESENTATION  /   DISPLAYING  YOUR  PIECES  FOR  SALE

I suggest you invest in a few "busts" or "necklace display" stands which you can use to display your necklaces.  If you make bracelets - then you will need some bracelet bars.  Obviously, I could continue but I am sure you get the idea.  Look at some display items and decide what you need, depending upon WHERE you will be displaying it - also, you must consider how much room you have at the place you are selling it.  Some businesses will only let you have a small area - so, again, make sure that this is discussed.

PACKAGING  YOUR  PIECES

I use organza bags for lots of my pieces - they look nice and they are good value.  Some of my better quality items I package in boxes which come (normally) with a silk or velvet lining.  These are more expensive but do give more credibility to your jewellery.  It is worth presenting your pieces well and, of course, by providing nice packaging you will encourage further purchases - birthdays, Christmas, Valentines, Mother's day, Father's day (if you get into male jewellery)!!  The list goes on and on.

There are many other packaging options available and, depending upon how "big" or "small" you decide you want your venture to be - the costs can be minimal expecially if you bulk buy.

PRICING  YOUR  PIECES

Price tags can be simply make at home if you have a decent guillotine.  I buy craft paper (thick type) and simply cut into rectangles and punch a hole in the corner.  Put string through and tie a knot.  Leave the string long enough to secure on pieces.   Again, if you can't be bothered - or haven't got a guillotine then the prices are only a few cents each and cheaper if you bulk buy.
